Open the Kinetics© program in another window so that you can enter some patient data.

Case 1

SCr = 1.2 mg/dl
Wt = 120 lbs
Ht = 63 in

Enter the patient data into Kinetics and determine a Gentamicin treatment plan. Some tips:

When treating pneumonia, aim for a higher peak, 8-10 mcg/ml
Because the patient is elderly, take it on easy on the kidneys and keep the trough below 1 mcg/ml.

After 2 days of the above therapy, a trough level is drawn 60 minutes before the start of the 60 minute infusion. This level was reported as 2.3 mcg/ml.

Enter the serum level data into Kinetics and determine a new Gentamicin treatment plan.

Case 2

SCr = 0.9 mg/dl
Wt = 165#
Ht = 5' 9"

Enter the patient data into Kinetics and determine a Gentamicin treatment plan. Some tips:

When treating a UTI, aim for a peak of 6 mcg/ml
Keep the trough below 1.5 mcg/ml.

After 2 days of the above therapy, a trough level is drawn 30 minutes before the start of the 60 minute infusion, a peak level is drawn 120 minutes after the end of the infusion. The trough level was reported as 1.2 mcg/ml, the peak level was reported as 4.8 mcg/ml.

Enter the serum level data into Kinetics and determine a new Gentamicin treatment plan.

Case 3

SCr = 1.1 mg/dl
Wt = 130#
Ht = 65"

Enter the patient data into Kinetics and determine an Gentamicin treatment plan. Some tips:

Patient is a candidate for extended interval dosing

After 3 days of the above therapy, a serum level is drawn 6 hours after the end of a 60 minute infusion. The level was reported as 7.5 mcg/ml.

Enter the serum level data into Kinetics and determine a new Gentamicin treatment plan.
